Creating An Emotional Experience Through Storytelling

(Random Side Note…As random is one of my favorite things. I hear that creating an emotional experience is key to creating attraction with woman, but seeing as I am a woman, this is not the purpose of this post! Try it if you’re of the male variety!
)
I was reading Stacy’s copy on her new website for the Suppositions Tasting Club the other day, and I was struck by this story she had written as the inspiration for her new business. I was there when it happened, so for me, it was even more powerful.
The two of us decided late last year to take a trip to Juniper Hills Farms to rent a cabin for a weekend of planning and goal setting. Stacy brought this journal she called her “vision journal” and a ton of magazines. She spent quite a bit of time clipping out the perfect images to put in the book as a reminder of what she wanted to manifest in life.
This one picture really struck her, and I remember having a conversation with her about it. (It’s the photo in this blog post.) She said when she looked at it, she “felt an overwhelming desire to be sitting at that very table, enjoying a glass of wine and basking in the candlelight. And then my mind wandered further. I wondered who else might be sitting at that table. Would I be dining across the globe in a foreign country? Would I even speak the same language as the other guests? What kinds of divine flavors would my pass my lips over the course of the evening?”
At first she had the story buried at the end of the About page on her website, but I couldn’t let her do that. I felt just reading the story made me feel compelled to want to sit at that same table with her, and I knew that other people would feel that same desire from reading the story. I called her up, and gave her my “Emotions Create Movement” speech and advised her to move the story to the top of the page. She put it on the Home page. Much better choice.
What I think this post most demonstrates is the power of creating an emotional experience through storytelling. It’s a wonderful and often overlooked business tool. I say, think about how you can use storytelling in an emotional and powerful way to help people feel drawn in to you. Whether you use it to attract a mate or grow your business, you decide. Just don’t forget to use it!

Would love to hear your “emotions create movement” speech.
Thanks, Lynn. I’m the queen of “speeches”…which you could more accurately call “rants”. LOL! Funny thing is, I left my “emotions create movement” speech on Stacy voicemail. I was so excited, I couldn’t wait to deliver it in person.
